Peterson Park AYSO is a volunteer-run organization. Coaches, referees and administrators are all volunteers. Nationally over 220,000 parents, neighbors, relatives and friends lend their time and talents so that each child gets a terrific AYSO experience. We depend on all of you to help fill the hundreds of needed positions that allow our kids to enjoy each new soccer season. Without the help of these countless individuals volunteering their time, there simply is no AYSO Region 183.
AYSO’s volunteer foundation ensures that it’s all about what’s good for kids. It also makes AYSO very affordable. AYSO operates in a business manner, but volunteers ensure its “profits” are happy, healthy kids playing a sport they can enjoy for life.
AYSO has developed special training that helps parents who may have little or no soccer experience quickly gain the age-appropriate knowledge and skills they need to be effective coaches and referees. It also has unique administrative and management training. This ensures that each community program:
- Abides by the AYSO philosophies
- Offers a great AYSO experience
- Continues to grow, offering the AYSO opportunity to more children
It only takes a few hours to become qualified as an introductory-level coach or referee. But if you’re not able to commit even that much time, there are many small jobs you can help with. Even a couple of hours each season are an important contribution to your team and Region!
Volunteer positions
- Head and assistant coach: No experience is required for coaching 12U or younger. Classes for 12U and younger are operated by Region 42. Coaches for 14U and higher must already be certified for 12U. Please see our Coach Training page for more details.
- Team Manager: Responsible for coordinating the team banner (if the team wants one), team photos, coach gifts..
- Referees: At least one referee per team in the 8U and older divisions. Referee classes for 6U/8U are done online, and those for 10U are operated by Region 183 and Area D. No experience necessary! For 12U games and higher, referees must already be certified for 10U. Please check see our Referee Training page for more details..
- Goal setup/tear-down: Teams that play the first or last game of the day at Peterson & Hollywood Parks must set up or tear down the goals for their field. It only takes a couple of people and can be done in about 5 minutes.
- Board members: Board members are responsible for the overall guidance of the region. From time to time, we will have open positions, but even if we don't have anything listed, we can always find something!

For board member, coaching, referee, and team parent positions, please register as a volunteer. Please see our volunteer details page for information about required training. The other jobs do not require any registration or online training, just a willingness to help.
Thank you
We know your time is valuable, and that there’s hardly ever enough “spare” time to volunteer everywhere you’re needed. From the bottoms of our hearts, thank you for contributing to the success of Peterson Park AYSO!
